We have partnered with TOHacks to plan a one-day, student-led hackathon that promoted youth involvement in environmental discourse. On Feb 23, 2019 at York University, over 100 students were immersed in an atmosphere that facilitates the incorporation of creative and critical thinking to devise solutions for real-world problems.
Participants had a chance to attend workshops, listen to keynote speakers and take part in a case-competition for a chance to win prizes and gain a better understanding of technology and its impact on the environment. We encouraged participants to explore their creativity and learn about the environment while creating, coding, and hacking their innovative systems. We believe this event not only allowed youth to express their ideas through various forms of media but also encouraged them to acknowledge and think critically about fundamental environmental issues in their community and around the world.
